Gen. Józef Dwernicki (1779–1857) - participant in Napoleonic campaigns, commander of the first victorious battle of the November Uprising (February 14, 1831), which took place in the fields in the village of Zgórznica near Stoczek Łukowski. Polish insurgent troops under the command of General Dwernicki defeated the Russian troops. In 1931, on the centenary of the Battle of Stoczek, a Monument to the Insurgents of 1831 was erected on the hill from which General Dwernicki commanded the Polish troops. The local People's Sports Club, which has been organizing the National Street Runs for many years at the turn of February and March, is named after General Dwernicki. Cannons are thundering near Stoczek.
