Jan Korzybski (1910–1944)

Jan Korzybski (1910–1944) – last owner of the estate and farm in Wilczyska, builder of the mill, member of the Home Army, nickname "Irma"; he trained young partisans and took part in the Warsaw Uprising; he was distinguished by courage and excellent shooting skills, e.g. with a machine gun he shot the pilot of a Stukas bomber flying low over the roof where he had his position; was mortally wounded in the Old Town; the bullet ripped off his arm; died August 20; to requests to be transferred to hospital, he replied: "I will die here, where I got married"; he was posthumously awarded the Virtuti Militari Cross; he was buried in the square at ul. Hipoteczna, was exhumed in the spring of 1945 and buried in the parish cemetery in Wilczyska in a family tomb.
