Józefów Duży - the site of the first mass execution in Podlasie of over 200 people carried out on April 14, 1940 by the Germans. SS, Gestapo and German gendarmerie units murdered over 200 people. The action was a retaliation for the killing of the family of a German colonist by common bandits. The place of execution in Józefów Duży is commemorated by a cross and a monument depicting a woman in pain. In 1956, the bodies of the murdered were exhumed and moved to the parish cemetery in Serokomla, where they rest in 16 mass graves.
