Fr. Stanisław Brzóska (1832–1865) From 1860, he was a vicar in Łuków, where he became famous for his patriotic sermons, which led to a conflict with the tsarist authorities and his imprisonment in the Zamość fortress. After returning from there, Father Brzóska devoted his life to fighting for the freedom of his homeland. During the January Uprising, he was a general and chief chaplain of the Podlaskie Voivodeship, war chief of the Łuków district, organizer and commander of an insurgent unit composed of peasants. Brzóska was the last insurgent who fought in the Kingdom until late spring 1865. He was captured together with his adjutant Franciszek Wilczyński (April 29, 1865), and both were publicly hanged on May 23, 1865 in the market square in Sokołów Podlaski. On June 3, 1928, in the Dąbrówka forest district and the current Jata reserve (near Gręzówka, Łuków county), in the place where the priest was hiding. After the fall of the uprising, a monument was erected to Brzóski and his adjutant.
