Baroque-classicist parish church of Saints Apostles Peter and Paul

Zabytki
Baroque-classicist parish church. Saints Peter and Paul the Apostles in Okrzeja, built in 1469, burned down in 1726, and rebuilt in 1790–1793 by Teresa Cieciszowska née Lelewel – Henryk Sienkiewicz's great-grandmother. Here, in 1843, the wedding of Stefania Cieciszowska and Józef Kalasanty Sienkiewicz, Henryk Sienkiewicz's parents, took place, and on May 7, 1846, Henryk Sienkiewicz was baptized. In the temple you will find three frescoes referring to scenes from the writer's novel. In 1974, Jan Molga decorated the church ceiling with polychromes with motifs from Sienkiewicz's novels - they depict "The Defense of Jasna Góra" from "The Deluge" and "Where Are You Going, Lord?" from "Quo Vadis". The writer's maternal ancestors were buried in the crypt under the church in Okrzeja.
