Henryk Adam Aleksander Pius Sienkiewicz of the Oszyk coat of arms, codename "Litwos", (1846–1916) "Musagetes", pseudonym "Juliusz Polkowski", "K. Dobrzyński”; Polish short story writer, novelist and publicist; the first Pole to receive the Nobel Prize in Literature (1905) - for lifetime achievement, "for exceptional epic merits"; one of the most popular Polish writers at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries; was born in Wola Okrzejska (Krzywda commune), where he spent a carefree childhood in the house of his grandmother Felicjanna Cieciszowska; it was here and in nearby Burc that he stayed for the first years of his life until he was sent to school in Warsaw in 1858; later he returned to this area many times, visiting his family, relatives and friends; many of these places and people can be found in his future works - for example, the ponds covered with rushes in nearby Burc, the estate of the writer's aunt, are the prototype of the quagmires around Zbaraż in "With Fire and Sword".
